The Sir Walter Raleigh Inn is a 16th-Century, family-run free house that's appreciated by locals and tourists alike. I was informed that 99 per cent of their ales are local, while the remainder is the 'best of the rest'. Such a choice attracts a healthy audience to the friendly bar area, where everyone is made to feel welcome. If you choose to dine, you will be guided through to the adjacent dining area, with its weathered, exposed beams and historic knick-knacks. Alongside various seasonal specials, the regular menu is a simple affair that offers the best of traditional pub cuisine, such as creamy homemade soup, luxury fish pie, steak and Guinness pie and spicy chicken curry. The Sir Walter Raleigh is a great little discovery.
