A visit to the newly refurbished Koloshi guarantees a unique culinary journey, during which you will take in rich spices and exotic flavours inspired by distant shores. The extensive menu offers an array of stunningly presented dishes to tantalise every palate, with chef Azad Hussain conjuring everything from curries and kebabs to vegetarian delights.
Exquisite meat and fish dishes infused with aromatic herbs are sure to whet the appetites of discerning diners. Highly recommended from the kebab selection is the divine hariyali machli, a dish comprising grilled monkfish in a lime leaf, coriander, green chilli and roasted gram flour marinade. Or, if you prefer a meatier option, malai tikka chicken with ginger, green chilli, cream cheese and coriander, served with a light salad, is also absolutely fantastic. The sides are just as enticing as the main courses. The saffron rice promises a showstopping combination of braised basmati, browned onions, raisins and saffron, and certainly delivers. The palak paneer - spinach with homemade Indian cottage cheese - offers sumptuous texture and flavour in equal measure.
Whatever combination of mains and sides you devour, be sure to leave room for one of Koloshi's freshly prepared desserts. Whether you opt for ghorom ice cream bajja, spicy aromatic pear with chocolate sauce or fresh caramelised mango served with Bengali-style sticky rice, all sweets are sure to make for a satisfying finale. Koloshi's cocktails are also a must-try. The bright, spacious and airy bar area is the perfect place to sample creative concoctions such as the fresh pomegranate, mint and lychee Martini - an ideal pre-dinner aperitif to prepare the palate for the gastronomic delights to come. A visit to this contemporary Indian eatery is a real must for lovers of this type of cuisine. I have no doubt that, although only launched in December 2011, this is a culinary venture set for success.
