The Swan is a busy, centrally located, dog-friendly pub offering a good range of drinks and traditional food. Here, the lunch and evening menus cater to all appetites and change seasonally owing to the use of local ingredients. Bar snacks and sides are available as starters, and there’s a choice of pub favourite main meals.
Upon our friendly waitress’ recommendation, I chose the 8oz beefburger with extras of Cheddar cheese, bacon and garlic mushrooms, served with hand-cut chips, a side salad and relish. The substantial plate of food that arrived was very satisfying and tasty to say the least, and justified my skipping a starter in order to fully enjoy the main event. My partner went with a seasonal special of O’Hagan’s artisan pork and cider sausages, which came with a helping of warming mustard mashed potatoes, peas and rich, thick onion gravy.
Feeling quite full after my beast of a burger, I chose vanilla ice cream with chocolate sauce and waffle biscuits for pudding; its simple deliciousness was a pleasant way to finish the meal. My partner enjoyed a rich and indulgent hot chocolate and nut brownie with a warm, gooey centre, which disappeared soon after arriving at the table. If you’re looking for a pub serving great food, then The Swan is most definitely for you.
