Located in the historic village of Wortley, near Sheffield, The Wortley Arms is full of character. Built in 1753 as a coach house, the venue was sensitively renovated in 2006 to showcase its original charm. With solid oak beams, wood cladding and a wood-burning fi re, the pub is cosy, relaxed and welcoming, though the real jewel in its crown is the beautifully presented food, which is created by Andy Gabbitas.
Andy has travelled the world and cooked for well-known celebrities, and has collected some outstanding recipes over the years, emphasising simple cooking and seasonal food. With a consistently high standard of produce, Andy’s cuisine is nothing short of exquisite. For this reason, The Wortley Arms has retained two AA rosettes for the last nine years – a rather impressive achievement.
Perhaps start with the home-smoked salmon with leek vinaigrette and a Parma ham crisp, followed by the fillet and belly of pork from Moss Valley Farm, served with sweet potato purée, green beans, piquillo peppers and harissa. For dessert, we highly recommend trying the sumptuous chocolate fondant served with raspberry sorbet. Choose from three local ales to accompany your meal, or opt for a refreshing pint of Peroni or Carling. If it’s wine you’re craving, the extensive wine list is sure to satisfy. Perfect for relaxed dining as well as more formal celebrations, The Wortley Arms also offers private dining for up to 50 people and buffet-style catering in its Montagu Rooms, which occupy the upper fl oor.
