The Notter Bridge Inn is a perfect country retreat on the edge of the River Lynher. Situated only 20 minutes from Plymouth, just off the A38, the inn is easy to get to - yet once you're there the bustle of city life seems a million miles away. Adding to the idyllic feel of this charming eatery, it even has its very own animal park complete with meerkats, raccoons, chickens, ducks, guinea pigs and a wallaby, which will delight visitors of all ages.
It's not just the countryside setting and the animals that keep diners returning to the inn time and again - chef-proprietor Alan Collings' accomplished fare is the real star of the show. To start, the delicately cooked peppered mackerel fillet is highly recommended, as are the juicy king prawns sautéed in tasty garlic butter, onions and white wine. Mains comprise a variety of delicious meat dishes, plus hearty pasta and some yummy vegetarian options. Highlights include flavoursome Mediterranean chicken, melt-inthe- mouth Moroccan lamb, and chef's own spinach and ricotta cannelloni. Be sure to make a return visit for the pub's delectable Sunday roasts too, which feature two succulent meats. You can wash it all down with the inn's quality guest ales, local ciders and wines, which are even better when enjoyed on the lovely patio during summer.
