The Cottage Inn

Situated right on Bristol's historic harbour at Baltic Wharf, The Cottage Inn can be reached by land or water. You can simply hop off the ferry and head inside for some delicious food, top-quality ale and a guaranteed good time. In the summer, people spill out onto the pretty patio and the steps leading down to the water, whilst winter sees diners hurrying inside for some cosy comfort food. This was our mission when we visited on a typically Bristolian rainy day, and we weren't disappointed.

Comfortably seated with a steaming coffee, we read the menu. I plumped for the beef and ale pie, whilst my companion couldn't resist the traditional Sunday roast beef with all the trimmings. When the food arrived, I was reminded of pub lunches of years gone by - hearty and satisfying. The pie was filled with tender chunks of beef cooked in real Butcombe ale, with a crisp puff pastry lid and creamy mash. After a helping of warm chocolate fudge cake and a slab of blackcurrant swirl cheesecake, we stayed a while and took in the view of the water, with Clifton's spectacular suspension bridge in the background.
