Situated just a stone’s throw from the spectacular Alum Chine beach, the family-fun Riviera Hotel plays host to the AA-rosette-award-winning Cunarder & Conservatory Restaurant. This spacious dining room is a superb place to hold a wedding banquet, a romantic meal for two or an occasion with friends and family. The restaurant boasts breathtaking views over Bournemouth Bay through the large conservatory windows, and the decor is modern and classy, conveying a relaxing ambience.
The menu comprises a contemporary take on traditional British cuisine, influenced by French cooking techniques. We chose our meals from the à la carte, my guest starting with beautifully presented Parmesan gnocchi with New Forest wild mushroom sauce and Parmesan crisps. I opted for Lyme Bay scallops, which were cooked to perfection. For mains, my dining partner sampled West Country beef medallion with duck fat-roasted potato, watercress mousseline and pan juices, while I chose roasted pork tenderloin with homemade gnocchi – both dishes were bursting with flavour and showcased the chef’s culinary talent.
For the grand finale, rich and creamy dark chocolate marquise and silky smooth Bacardi panna cotta were our vices of choice – a sumptuously sweet end to a fantastic food-filled evening. Booking a table is highly recommended as, thanks to its reputation, the restaurant understandably gets very busy.
