When you consider its light and airy interior, it's hard to believe that The Engine Room used to be a barn storing farm engines. The farm is long gone, but the café retains a certain rustic charm and boasts pleasant views of Poundbury and the garden centre. After a green-fingered morning, it's the perfect place to sit back with a cappuccino and a slice of cake.
There's a great deal to choose from so diners are spoilt for choice. The menu features locally sourced ingredients and fresh, homemade dishes with something to suit every taste. For my main course I ordered a caramelised red onion and goat's cheese quiche which was fluffy, light and creamy, accompanied by a beautifully presented colourful salad. My partner plumped for an 8oz burger topped with caramelised onion and vintage Cheddar from a list of tempting toppings. The meat was juicy and tender and had been perfectly cooked. For dessert, I went for a fantastic lemon tart that certainly woke up my taste buds - it was fresh, sharp and incredibly sweet, with crisp almond pastry. My partner opted for a crumble packed with chunks of Bramley apple, served with vanilla pod ice cream. The Engine Room has a great menu that caters for everyone, including children and those with special dietary requirements. All in all, it's a lovely place to visit and one I'm eager to return to
