The Black Boy
Pubs and Bars with Restaurants

Shinfield Road, Shinfield, Nr. Reading, RG2 9BP

The Black Boy has been an historic landmark for over 500 years and, naturally, has quite a history. During its time as a public house it has always attracted a substantial following. Isambard Kingdom Brunel stayed here in 1833, and today the inn draws no less attention - The One Show even recently filmed a piece about one of Brunel's many inventions here.
When Michael and Claire took over The Black Boy, the pub underwent a complete renovation, both in appearance and offerings. One of the oldest wisterias in the country still remains, but the entire pub - bar, restaurant and outdoor areas - now has a contemporary feel and modern furnishings. It serves a fantastic range of menus to suit all tastes and appetites, featuring dishes made with quality locally sourced produce.
The table arrangements have been designed with business meetings and couples in mind, creating a private environment that lends itself to easy conversation, whether you take a seat on a comfy sofa in the spacious bar area or in the more formal restaurant. There is also an excellent outside space for drinking and alfresco dining.
There are many interesting theories as to how the pub acquired its unusual name, but, wherever it came from, there's no doubt The Black Boy has been witness to countless moments in history. The team looks forward to the privilege of carrying on this tradition for many years to come.
