Rural Oxfordshire holds many gems, but few so happily situated as The White House. This 16th-century building appeals to foodies and historians alike, being just a stone's throw from Churchill's burial place and a short distance from stunning Blenheim Palace. Under new ownership since the beginning of 2014, The White House is now all about serving the local community both top-quality pub food and an evening à la carte that makes good use of produce grown, reared and made in the locale. Its identity has not been lost though; this is still very much a pub welcoming people to prop up the bar with a fine pint. At lunchtime, a perfectly formed menu includes traditional pub meals like Kevin's homemade steak and ale pie, served with buttery chive mash, peas and onion gravy. The evening à la carte is complemented by a special board and holds such delights as confi t duck with Dauphinoise potatoes, bok choi and honey jus.
