The Fox & Hounds

In a beautiful setting far from the madding crowd, the Fox & Hounds is a delightful village pub catering for foodies and music lovers, as well as those just out for a quiet drink. Walking through the picturesque garden, complete with ample seating for those warm summer days, we had a sneaky feeling this was going to be a very enjoyable evening.

From the extensive and varied menu, we chose starters of nachos with sour cream and salsa, and smoked mackerel on garlic and basil toast with coleslaw - full of flavour and beautifully presented on a wooden platter. The long list of main dishes included pizza and oven-baked potatoes, a range of gluten-free meals and a board full of specials. I went for one of the latter, and was delighted with my tender beef, white pepper and orange cottage pie, topped with golden mash and served with seasonal vegetables. My wife's beer-battered chicken and mozzarella in a bun with chunky chips was generous and toothsome. I finished with a light yet creamy creme brulee while my wife had a moreish toffee cheesecake. We'll be sure to return to the Fox & Hounds for one of its regular music nights and, when the height of summer rolls round, for the annual Fox Fest.
