Slip inside The Black Duck and you'll be warmly welcomed by Nikki and Gary Kinnell. This tastefully refurbished 16th-century rural inn has a contemporary interior with comfy leather sofas by the huge and magnificent inglenook, attractive oak flooring and rustic wooden tables. The well-stocked bar hosts two or three real ales including Harveys Best, a selection of draught lagers and ciders, and an impressive wine list hand-picked by the customers. Drinks are served by kind, efficient staff, who set the scene for a very comfortable experience. The welcome extends to four-legged friends, and children until around 8.30pm. Whatever the weather, whatever the time of year, the pub garden boasts fabulous views across a scenic country landscape that is second to none.
The food will not disappoint; it is fresh, homemade and delicious, uses local meat, fish, produce and suppliers where possible, and is realistically priced and consistently excellent. The core menu consisting of proper pub classics can be found on their website but is massively complemented by an imaginative specials board featuring impressive and extensive alternatives. Sundays are all about the traditional English roast, with generous portions, delectable cuts of meat and Yorkshire puds all round.
Booking is highly recommended to avoid disappointment since, as many have discovered, The Black Duck affords a 'quacking' experience both inside and out for drinkers and diners alike
