Three Cups Corner, Nr. Heathfield, TN21 9LR
Tucked away in beautiful East Sussex countryside lies The Three Cups Inn, named in honour of its location near the meeting of three rivers. Entering the pub, you might get the feeling of being in an ordinary inn; don't be deceived - this hostelry is keeping several big secrets.
First, it's home to various ghostly visitors. It was built in 1696, as evidenced by the inglenook fireplace, and staff love telling stories of ghoulish happenings. But there's another, more earthly secret to uncover - the kitchen is home to some of the best chefs in the area. The delicious choice of food, on the main menu and specials list, makes choosing very difficult.
Perhaps try a superb Italian risotto with spinach and goat's cheese or crayfish and sea bass, or tuck into crispy duck spring rolls with pineapple salsa. Local favourites with a twist, such as roasted chicken breasts filled with Brie and wrapped in Serrano ham, are exceedingly tempting too. Every plate of food arrives so artistically presented, it almost seems a shame to tuck in. Just make sure you leave room for dessert - all home cooked and utterly indulgent, they weaken even the most disciplined.
All in all, The Three Cups Inn is a great place to drink, dine and relax - discover it before the secret gets out.
