If you’re looking for a classic country pub, you can’t beat The Barley Mow. Despite the nearby Tilford Bridge’s closure, this charming pub remains open to both diners and drinkers year round. Overlooking Tilford Green, on some days you can even watch a game of cricket whilst sipping your beer. The charming riverside garden is ideal for al fresco dining, while the cosy, traditional-style interior – complete with wooden panelling and exposed beams – welcomes guests in on cold winter days.
The newly converted Coach House has its own outdoor snug, bar and facilities, ideal for smaller parties. The bar offers a selection of ale, cider, beer and wine and the mouth-watering menu boasts seasonal dishes, with regular use of local produce. The crispy beer-battered fish and chips is prepared with freshly delivered cod and the burgers are served with onion rings, chips and coleslaw. There’s a traditional beefburger or a plant-based mushroom and beetroot burger to suit vegan and vegetarian diners. A visit to The Barley Mow on Sunday would not be complete without a delicious roast. The Sunday menu changes weekly, but you may find the likes of roast chicken with stuffing, loin of pork with apple sauce, or sirloin of beef with horseradish sauce, all of which are served alongside a Yorkshire pudding, seasoned roast potatoes, fresh seasonal vegetables and the chef’s homemade gravy.
