This grade-II-listed building has been transformed by the Bon Appetit team, who exposed the brickwork and reinstated the original beams, giving the restaurant character and charm. The dining room boasts fantastic views across Ramsgate harbour - in the summer months its terrace is a lovely spot to sit and enjoy a glass of wine with a bowl of moules marinière.
Owner Mark Way, his wife and his father, John, bought the restaurant 11 years ago, so it is a real family-run affair. The eatery's warm, family-friendly atmosphere is testament to this - the place is always buzzing with happy chatter. Bon Appetit is known for serving quality food at a reasonable price. They source produce locally as much as possible, so the menu is generally defined by the seasons. With the help of Michelin-graded chef Tony Davis, Mark and his team are taking their food to another level. The lunch menu features the likes of croque monsieur, oeuf sur le plat, and classic cod and chips. The à la carte offers an equally wide choice, with starters from £5.95 and superb mains, including whole sea bass with mussel and saffron chowder and balsamic-glazed Barbary duck breast, from £13.95.
Finish with moreish homemade desserts of pear tarte tatin with pear sorbet and Calvados cream or traditional crêpes Suzette. Diners have travelled from far and wide just to enjoy an evening at Bon Appetit - and, with fare like this on offer, it's easy to understand why.
