As you cross the threshold of Ricky's Steakhouse at The Sun Inn there are some real surprises in store. The inn boasts an all-American theme, which immediately gets guests talking, and an inviting atmosphere that ensures everyone feels at ease. Visual tributes to the States abound - think Marilyn Monroe, Rodeo Drive and The Rat Pack - and there's a popcorn machine in the bar.

We sat in 'Times Square', surrounded by clocks of all shapes and sizes, and perused a menu which included starters such as flavoursome New England clam chowder and fully loaded potato skins. Main courses took the form of succulent locally sourced steaks, sizzling fajitas, whopping American-style burgers and huge racks of ribs. Quintessentially Yankee desserts included cheesecakes, Ben & Jerry's ice cream and a huge toffee popcorn sundae. We also took a peek at the £5 lunchtime menu, which was full of good-value lighter snacks, and noted that a great American Thanksgiving roast is available every Sunday.
