The Greyhound Inn
Pubs and Bars with Restaurants

31 High Street, Stockbridge, SO20 6EY

People are talking about The Greyhound at Stockbridge - and for all the right reasons. The fabulous food served here has been a topic of conversation for years, with equal praise given to the friendly, efficient service and relaxing ambience.
Manager Suzie is delighted when customers who drop in for morning coffee and homemade cakes end up staying for lunch. Since Suzie's family took the reigns, The Greyhound has been transformed from a place for a simple drink to an award-winning dining destination, boasting a congenial buzz and relaxed atmosphere, thanks to exposed beams, wooden floors, scrubbed tables and ancient brickwork. When we arrived, the comfy chairs and sofas in the lounge were playing host to a reassuring blend of business meetings, coffee gatherings and diners enjoying an aperitif, as well as a newspaper-reading guest who was staying in one of the eight bedrooms.
We felt at home in an instant and were pleased to find both bar and restaurant menus full of mouth-watering choices, with an open invitation to mix and match. After much deliberation, we opted for one lunch from the bar menu - a delightful tomato and bocconcini tartlet followed by a perfectly cooked risotto of wild mushroom, chorizo and goat's cheese - and one from the restaurant selection. The twice-baked goat's cheese soufflé with herb oil and cress salad was followed by sea bass fillet on a brown shrimp risotto with a tomato and broad bean velouté. Indecision returned as we pondered the dessert choices, eventually plumping for a coffee pannacotta with caramelised pears (though dark chocolate fondant with pistachio ice cream almost won the day). Our choices didn't disappoint, and we enjoyed every delicious mouthful and every sip of wine.
With its roaring log fire in winter and riverside garden in summer, The Greyhound Inn is a year- round winner, whatever the occasion.
