The Plough Inn

In its quaint location on Chapel Lane, The Plough blends a traditional country pub atmosphere with comfortable dining to great effect. An ever-changing menu accommodates a variety of homemade delights, including the haddock and crab cakes we enjoyed as a starter along with a bowl of steaming hot, fresh carrot and coriander soup of the day. The British beef and beer casserole, with tender chunks of beef marinated in a hearty beer broth, satisfied my carnivorous tastes, while the creamy spinach and ricotta cannelloni was a scrumptious vegetarian option. Well-measured portions offered plenty without being overpowering and the dessert menu was full of pub classics, along with more unusual dishes such as the zesty chocolate orange 'meltdown'. Ample room for children to work up an appetite in the play area and beer garden, and a dog-friendly policy, makes this an ideal place to while away an afternoon.
