Dover Castle Inn

The history of Dover Castle Inn stretches all the way back to the 17th century, when it was originally built as a coaching inn for tired travellers and their horses. A century later the pub was sold to Britain’s oldest brewer, Shepherd Neame. Today, having recently undergone grand-scale renovation, fresh food, fine ale and a warm atmosphere entice new and returning customers into the beautifully finished interior for a joyous dining experience.

With a new lease of life, Dover Castle retains the charm that first gave the pub its fantastic reputation. Friendly staff ensure a smooth and thoroughly enjoyable experience from the moment you step inside. Take a seat in one of the three spacious restaurant areas or, weather permitting, head outside to make the most of the stunning new patio, children’s play area and large green garden from which horses and wildlife can often be spotted in the nearby orchard.

Start your meal with a classic prawn cocktail, or indulge in breaded Brie served with a rocket salad and sweet tomato chutney. The sharing platter is a great option for those struggling to decide on a single starter, and includes a selection of favourites such as filo prawns, barbecue chicken wings and mozzarella sticks. The attractive menu features well-portioned traditional dishes alongside classic burgers, salads and pasta dishes to suit all tastes. A separate vegetarian menu presents a wondrous selection of meat-free options such as a hearty and creamy vegetable bake, and the ever-popular goat’s cheese and red onion tart served piping hot from the oven. Families are more than welcome and there’s an excellent children’s menu. Those visiting for lunch will find a selection of tempting open sandwiches served on a choice of artisanal bread or freshly baked baguettes and served with crisps, homemade coleslaw, rocket and sliced tomato.
