Just a few minutes’ drive from the Sheppey Crossing, The Aviator is the perfect introduction to the Isle of Sheppey. Breakfast is served from 8am every day making this the perfect spot for a morning visit – expect traditional cooked breakfasts and tempting vegetarian and vegan options, alongside a choice of cereal and fruit. Those visiting later in the day will find an excellent range of homemade classics, including a selection of juicy steaks. The themed restaurant has undergone a thorough refurbishment and the menu now includes delights from the newly installed smokers. Seafood-lovers will also be pleased to hear that proximity to the sea affords The Aviator easy access to a wealth of locally caught fresh fish.
Guests visiting on a Sunday can also benefit from the excellent carvery, with a selection of meats including home-smoked gammon, turkey crown, succulent rosemary-infused leg of lamb and juicy topside of beef. These delights are complemented by a choice of fine wine, real ale, draught beer and bottled cider from the well-stocked bar. On sunny days guests can enjoy their drinks in the delightful sun-trap garden and there’s a children’s play area to keep little ones entertained. Beer connoisseurs will be intrigued to know that in association with The Rotary Club this vibrant pub hosts the island’s annual beer festival every August, with a series of live bands and entertainment. As well as offering public events, this is the perfect spot for private parties, and the team can cater for anything from a family gathering to a wedding party.
A tribute to the island’s historical past, The Aviator contains an abundance of fascinating memorabilia relating to the Short brothers and the history of flight. Situated a ten-minute drive from the Aviation Museum and a five-minute drive from Queenborough Harbour, the site of a Dutch invasion in 1667, this is an excellent starting point for history buffs visiting the island. The Aviator is especially convenient as it boasts excellent parking facilities, including a sloped entrance and designated parking for disabled visitors.
