Stunningly stylish both inside and out, The Minnow offers contemporary dining in a fantastic location with an outstanding range of good value, modern cooking and attentive, friendly service.
We visited on a chilly autumn evening and the real fires and chunky dining furniture immediately made us feel cosy and at home. The knowledgeable staff recommended wines from their extensive list and we perused the menu over a glass of mellow Chilean red.
The Minnow provides an eclectic range of dishes, from pizzas and pastas through to steaks and seafood. My guest started with some impressive crab cakes with a mango, chilli and coriander salsa, whilst I enjoyed a caramelised onion tart with goat's cheese and oven dried tomatoes. Both starters were extremely well presented and generous in size.
Fired margherita pizza - a wonderfully light and crispy base, with a rich tomato sauce and gooey mozzarella, awash with my requested additional toppings of olives and mushrooms - was easily the best I've tasted this side of Italy. My companion chose a succulent pork fillet with mustard mash and spinach from the specials board, which he branded 'superb' in terms of taste, presentation and the quality of ingredients. For dessert I savoured a delectable warm chocolate pudding, whilst my guest hoovered up his sundae glass of cookies and ice cream with absolute relish.
We thoroughly enjoyed our evening at The Minnow - the menu represents the absolute best in contemporary dining and the excellent location and welcoming interior make it an ideal venue for cosy téte-à-téte dinners through to larger group gatherings. And thanks to the roaring fires during winter and the pretty patio garden in the summer, it's a treat to visit whatever the season.
