You don’t need to book an expedition to experience a taste of Nepal, just book a table at Esher’s fabulous Sherpa Kitchen. Step through the deceptively small frontage into a spacious, bright restaurant spread over three floors. The contemporary interior is complemented by Nepalese objects and provides a warm atmosphere. The talented and passionate kitchen team creates sublime dishes using traditional techniques and subtle flavours that are unique to Nepalese, Tibetan and Indian cuisine. If you can’t decide what to choose from the tempting menu, friendly and knowledgeable staff are on-hand to help. Try the momo – delicious steamed dumplings – to start and follow with Sherpa Kitchen’s signature dish Khasi Tang, comprising slow-cooked lamb’s knuckle, for a real taste of Nepal. Vegetarians and those with allergens are well catered for too. The kitchen team has a clay oven and cooks many of its dishes over charcoal for a distinct smoky flavour. Expect delicately spiced meat, prawn, and vegetable dishes, all of which are packed with flavour.
If you can’t get enough of the exceptional food and would like to sample it in the comfort of your own home, opt for a takeaway. With a ten-per-cent discount on collections, it’s a great-value option. A real hidden gem, Sherpa Kitchen is not to be missed.
