Hidden in plain sight, on the main drag in Molesey, Le Chien Qui Fume has been serving some of the finest French cuisine since doors opened in 1972.
Le Chien Qui Fume, inspired by Au Chien Qui Fume in Paris, follows a similar philosophy of quality and service; encouraging loyalty amongst regular customers. Chef Thierry Leroux has been in charge in the kitchen here for 20 years, previously working in a three Michelinstarred restaurant in Paris, and it shows.
A cosy, welcoming atmosphere, with an open kitchen and quaint bevelled windows, lends an air of yesteryear to the place - from a calmer, slower time. The à la carte menu features classic favourites like grenouilles Provençal (frogs legs) and entrecote marchand de vin (sirloin steak), while the speciality board is influenced by fresh seasonal produce, including plenty of game, as well as live lobsters from the tank. The extensive wine selection caters for all tastes, with staff always happy to help with the choice.
Elaborate desserts, including rich chocolate brandy mousse and hot apple tart, and an exceptional cheese board finish off a perfect meal. Expect fine French cuisine at an exceptional restaurant, but with prices far more modest than the menu.
