This is one of those restaurants that is well and truly tucked away. Once you locate it in Southampton's city centre, the red neon lights of the Bouzy Rouge sign will grab your attention. And then you walk down the stairs to find a basement eatery that is tastefully cavernous. I cannot say enough good things about Bouzy Rouge: the French (not classical, but certainly French) and world cuisine, the low ruby lighting, comfortable seating, stellar service and superb wine selection all add up to a memorable dining experience. However, you needn't worry about remembering it, because you'll certainly be back. There is a daily specials board which features various fish, game and meat dishes, and there is always a wide choice of vegetables and potatoes from which to choose. Portions are bountiful, and prices very reasonable. You can choose from an extensive wine list, the French listings of which are particularly recommended, and there is also a full bar with draught beer. You can either celebrate with friends here or dine very privately, with the combination of minimal lighting and clever use of curtains. No wonder Bouzy Rouge has been around for over 25 years. I highly recommend it.
