The Mission Mexican Grill
The Americas

This is a calling for all Mexican food lovers, and for those non-believers too - The Mission Mexican Grill in Oxford is a resounding success, serving fresh Mexican food that will ignite all types of appetite and tastes. This culinary paradise is perfectly placed in the hub on St Michael's Street, a vibrant part of Oxford's city centre. It caters exceptionally well for both vegetarian and meat-eaters alike, offering a scrumptious selection of authentic burritos, spicy salsas and mouth-watering fillings - all at an irresistibly affordable price. This culinary phenomenon was ingeniously created by founder and owner, Jan Rasmussen. A genuinely upbeat and friendly guy, his entrepreneurial foresight has inspired him to corner a niche market based on the style of Mexican food found in the Mission district of San Francisco. Oxford makes the ideal location for his restaurant to thrive, with its rich blend of diverse cultures and cosmopolitan communities. Your culinary senses will be switched to overdrive as you munch your way through the selection of freshly made, mouth-watering and flavoursome fillings, which are snugly wrapped with large flour tortillas. All the dishes are prepared using the freshest ingredients - The Mission receives deliveries daily and proudly declare 'no freezers, no fryers and no tin openers'. Freshness is guaranteed, and the food is bursting with a feast of herbs and aromatic spices. When you finally make your choice from the vast array, you won't be disappointed. There are chicken, slow-roast pork or steak options. Both the steak and the chicken are marinated in a chipotle adobo sauce - the chipotle is a smoked jalapeno pepper, and adds a unique and intense perfume to these characteristic Mexican dishes. Adobo is a sauce of Spanish origin and provides a sharp and tangy twist. My personal choice was a scrumptious vegetarian burrito wrap, which arrived bursting with grilled peppers, onions and black beans, plus guacamole, sour cream and salsas. The customer service here excels too - the staff are polite and friendly, and the place is spotlessly clean. The Mission is also great if you fancy a take away too, but if you're eating in you can choose to dine at a stylish picnic-bench table, or take a pew by the window and watch the world go by. As with everything here, the choice is yours. The culinary delights of The Mission Mexican Grill will blow your tastebuds away, and there's a cool, refreshing bottle of Corona beer on hand to wash it all down - the whole experience is authentic, delicious and will leave you with a taste of Mexico you'll want to experience again and again.
