Part of the von Essen collection, New Park Manor is a picturesque country house hotel and restaurant of historic importance dating back to the 16th Century. It is situated in the heart of the New Forest National Park - an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Built in 1666 as a hunting lodge for Charles II, it still retains many original features such as floor-to-ceiling sash windows, wood panelling and Charles II's intricately carved royal coat of arms, which hangs above the fireplace in the Stag Restaurant. Enjoy a pre-dinner drink and delicious canapés in front of the warming log fire in the Rufus Lounge - a traditional drawing room with deep leather sofas, rich furnishings and low lighting. Here, the sporting memorabilia creates the atmosphere of a gentleman's club and there is a wonderfully relaxed ambience. For daytime dining there is also the more contemporary Polo Lounge and Bar with light-welcoming windows through which ponies, deer, birds and foxes can often be seen.
Excellent traditional English cuisine with a sumptuous contemporary twist is served in the awardwinning Stag Restaurant, which offers elegance and charm as well as warm and friendly service to create a fine-dining experience. The knowledgeable staff are also on hand to recommend the perfect wine accompaniment from the extensive list of thoughtfully chosen and popular vintages. To start, try the salmon gravlax with pickled root vegetable and horseradish cream. Main courses include local specialities such as potroasted pheasant served with braised red cabbage, game chips and shallot bread sauce. There are also innovative and imaginative seasonal dishes that use fresh local produce such as roasted autumn vegetable Charlotte served with Parmentier potatoes, aubergine caviar and oyster mushroom tempura. A varied dessert menu includes cinder toffee parfait and caramelised pear tarte tatin as well as an extensive cheese selection served with fig and pear chutney, wafer biscuits, celery, Dundee cake and grapes.
Finish it all off by taking advantage of their spa facilities - a dip in the Canadian hot tub is sure to leave you feeling rejuvenated.
