When I went to The Cock Inn, I stole owner Val’s purse. Not literally, but it felt like I had when I considered the quality of my meal and the price I paid. Stunning views and an idyllic countryside location are just the start of the list of reasons to visit this charming pub – the locally sourced sirloin steak, stuffed with Stilton and served with mushroom and cream sauce is another. If the sound of that has made you salivate, I recommend you explore the rest of the finely tuned menu, which includes deep-fried Camembert with cranberry sauce as a starter, and mains like local venison sausages with mash and onion gravy, and a homemade steak and ale pie.
The tempting array of homemade desserts includes a treacle tart and a rhubarb crumble, as well as a thoughtful vegan option – soya ice cream with strawberries and raspberry coulis. You’ll be pleased to hear that your furry companions are as welcome as you are, and are even given their own bowl and chewy treat.
