Located in the small village of Porchfield, the Sportsman's Rest offers a taste of days gone by, serving quality food and drink in a warm and charming atmosphere. The abundance of quality produce the Island has to offer has not been lost on the Sportsman's chefs - local produce is used wherever possible to prepare their much-loved pub fare.
Yet the Sportsman's Rest is like no other traditional pub. Customers from near and far keep returning to gorge on their famous mouth-watering pies - without a doubt the best in the region. A wide range of fillings are available including game, steak and kidney, chicken and bacon, steak and Stilton and wild mushroom and asparagus. Depending on your mood, the pies are available to eat in or take away, and can be made to order, any size you require.
Elsewhere on the main menu there are filling pub classics like gammon, egg and chips, lamb shank in mint gravy, wholetail scampi, and broccoli and cheese bake. If you have a smaller appetite don't worry, you can choose from an alternative menu.
Behind the bar, real ale is tapped from the barrel it was brewed in. No pipes or pumps are involved, just pure ale - and the beer is probably the finest you're going to find on the Island. Not only does the Sportsman's Rest serve superb food and drink, it also has a unique atmosphere - there is no pool table, no jukebox and no wide-screen television, and as a result the pleasant hum of conversation emanates from every corner of the pub. Every customer that has ever stepped inside the Sportsman's Rest prefers it that way.
Outside there is a large car park and garden with ample seating, so that on warm days you can enjoy the fresh Island air. Ideally situated for exploring the Island's coastal paths, the Sportsman's Rest is a must for discerning foodies.
