Situated in the converted warehouse of a 19th-Century brewery, overlooking the scenic River Medina quayside, this café provides a bright, relaxed atmosphere with plenty of seating. The daily changing menu showcases healthy main choices, as well as mouth-watering cakes, and strives to cater extensively for vegetarians and vegans - although numerous options for fish lovers and carnivores are on offer too. Gluten and dairy-free alternatives are also available. Where possible, ingredients are sourced from local growers who specialise in quality organic and free-range produce. The café is licensed and serves local ales, spirits and house wines.
Our shared starter, a classic combination of plump, softened vine tomatoes with crumbly, tangy feta on crisp toasted bruschetta, was excellent. Then, a substantial bowl of pasta smothered in a delicate tarragon sauce arrived piping hot and bursting with meaty chestnut mushrooms. Liberally sprinkled shavings of Pecorino added another delightful dimension. My large jacket potato was topped with chunks of perfectly cooked lean Thai beef, noodles and bean sprouts, and accompanied by freshly made crunchy, creamy coleslaw. We could not resist trying the light vanilla and poppy-seed sponge cake, generously topped with fluffy vanilla buttercream - the ideal finish. Whether you want a light bite, a hearty lunch or a naughty noontide cake, this café is the right choice
