The family-run Castle Inn pub is in fact Newport's oldest. Fantastic quality drinks and freshly prepared fare, coupled with a lovely laid-back feel, have ensured the enduring success of this longstanding establishment. Inside, you'll discover an historic space filled with flagstone flooring, beamed ceilings and exposed red-brick walls - pubs don't come much more atmospheric than this.
Now under new management, The Castle Inn is striving to make guests feel at home. If you're hoping for something to eat, look to the menu filled with traditional pub classics. Home-cooked dishes include starters of creamy garlic mushrooms and deep-fried Brie wedges, whilst the enticing mains selection features beer-battered cod and chips, Isle of Wight beef cottage pie and homemade pie of the day. The succulent 8oz sirloin steak, served with all the trimmings, is also worth a try. Whatever you choose, remember that ingredients have been sourced locally as far as possible to ensure quality and freshness. On Sundays, visit for Sunday lunch - they're practically famous in Newport. Of course, you can wash it all down with a pint of real ale, premium beer, lager or something from the concise wine list.
In warm weather, take your meal or drink out into the sunshine and make the most of the pretty garden. The Stable Bar area is also available for private hire, and the team provides a full catering service for functions
