Shimla Spice won a hat-trick of awards at the 2015 English Curry Awards. The Shipley restaurant took home the Best Restaurant in Yorkshire award, while the new branch in Burnley, Lancashire, won the Best New Restaurant in England accolade. For current owner Faisel Hussain, winning the Curry King of England 2015 award – which recognises those who are the best in the industry – was a proud moment.
The restaurant has been scooping up awards since it was first founded by three brothers back in 1998. Basharat, Mo and Mahmood all boasted successful culinary careers on the London dining scene before heading back to their home county, Yorkshire, to open their own restaurant – Shimla Spice in Keighley. The Shipley venue soon opened, following instant success in Keighley. The latest addition to the Shimla family is a stylish new restaurant in Burnley.
Shimla Spice has a strong loyal following due to consistently exceptional food, warm, friendly service and a relaxed atmosphere in which diners can enjoy it all. The range of traditionally cooked desi dishes keeps diners coming back for more and all tastes and preferences are catered for. Curries with a kick, mildly spiced dishes and healthy options all feature on the extensive menu, and vegetarian dishes at Shimla are not simply an option, they are a speciality. Only the freshest, finest-quality ingredients are used and the care and skill all the highly trained chefs demonstrate is in evidence in every dish that leaves the kitchen. You might like to start with the Shimla Spice sizzler mix, which is a combination of chicken tikka, chicken boti, seekh kebab, meat chops and fish masala. Then, perhaps follow with the rich meat makhani; the spicy chicken achari or the hearty king prawn Lahori. Add a Peshwari naan, special rice and tarka dahl to the mix and you’ll be sorted for the rest of the evening. With takeaway options, you can also enjoy Indian cuisine from the comfort of your own home.
Your first visit here certainly won’t be your last. Shimla’s style is unique and the chefs are constantly working on new dishes to keep up with culinary trends.
