Danesfield House Hotel and Spa
British

Henley Road, Marlow-on-Thames, SL7 2EY

Danesfield House, between Henley and Marlow, is steeped in four centuries of history and cradled in 65 acres of immaculate grounds. The gardens offer many secluded picnic spots and you can order a picnic hamper to enjoy in your location of choice.
Danesfield has been listed by Condé Nast Johansens as one of the best venues for weddings, parties and special events in 2015, and secured the Most Excellent Spa in the UK. It isn't surprising that many people have proposed at Danesfield, and even, like George Clooney, chosen it as the setting for their wedding reception.
Both of Danesfield's restaurants are elegant and delightful. The Orangery overlooks the terrace and is gorgeous for afternoon tea. In both the Orangery and the Oak Room, chef Billy Reid offers market-fresh lunches, luxurious two- and three-course Sunday lunches and a particularly pescatarian-friendly dinner menu. My scallop starter was seasoned so skilfully it needed nothing else. Staff were accommodating and attentive, ensuring that all was well for my gluten-intolerant companion by allowing her to borrow the moules marinières from the set lunch menu. My organic salmon was pink perfection on crisp green beans and my companion's fillet of beef was gloriously tender.
As for the desserts, they were exquisite. My friend's crème brûlée cracked satisfyingly under her spoon. She was then silent for at least five minutes, lost in caramelised bliss. My lemon tart with autumnal blackberry sorbet was beautifully presented and provided a delicious end to an enchanting meal
