Family owned, The New Mill exudes character and offers a genuinely warm welcome. Its menus have been developed with passion by head chef Colin Robson-Wright and his talented team, capturing the essence of each season and using fresh and locally sourced ingredients whenever possible. With such high standards in the kitchen, it's no wonder the restaurant has been awarded two AA rosettes.

A starter of crayfish and leek risotto with a shellfish bisque and lemongrass-and-coconut foam was simply delectable. My companion adored the pan-roasted pork fillet with its black pudding Dauphinoise and parsnip purée, while my saddle of wild venison with swede purée, Parmentier potatoes and roasted chestnuts took a delightful twist via the bitter chocolate accompaniment. My friend concluded lunch with a light and refreshing carpaccio of spiced pineapple with pannacotta and chilled pineapple soup, while I opted for a traditional sticky toffee pudding, brought bang up to date with the addition of a toffee milkshake and brandy and date ice cream. As well as its à la carte menu, The New Mill offers a chef's 'menu of the day' from as little as £16.95 for two courses. Such is its food and setting, this restaurant caters beautifully for weddings and other special celebrations. Eat here once and you'll want to return very soon.
