Ship Inn

You might feel like you have momentarily stepped back in time when you visit The Ship Inn in Brimscombe. Its traditional menu and faultless s e rvice is reminiscent of a time when pubs were the hub of any community and the beautiful 17th century building it is housed in, completes the historical illusion.

I started off with a Nice and Spicy Platter which included cheese and chilli melters, jalapeño munches, spicy onion rings, hot stuffed peppers and mozzarella sticks, which was delicious and just what I needed to warm me up on a cold rainy winter evening. My partner chose crispy coated Brie and Camembert served with a cranberry sauce and found this to be equally enjoyable.

The main courses made it challenging to make a decision. There are over ten vegetarian main courses plus curries, pasta, fish, meat and a griddle offering steaks and grills. In the end I opted for comfort food in the shape of a vegetarian lasagne with chips and my partner chose the beef and ale pie, which was one of a choice of three home-cooked pies. We skipped dessert but the menu was equally impressive for those with a sweet tooth with both traditional and more contemporary desserts available.

There's no specials board at The Ship Inn because everything they serve is special, perfect for the next time you feel like sampling the good old days.
