Hook Tandoori is a vibrant, modern restaurant that owes its popularity to the delicious authentic Indian, Bangladeshi and Asian fusion cuisine it serves. The menu is extensive and ranges from the well known to the more unusual. Fresh Bangladeshi fish is used to create wonderful seafood dishes, each one superbly presented and cooked with pride and attention to detail. And, to accompany your meal, there's a good selection of wine, Champagne, Indian lager, spirits and soft drinks.
We enjoyed a couple of poppadoms and a glass of house wine while we perused the menu. To begin, our waiter suggested that we try a mix of starters, including onion bhajis, garlic mushroom purée, chicken and lamb tikka and a sheek kebab. This fantastic little selection was an extremely tasty start to the meal. As a main course I chose the beef granny, a dish that has been cooked for generations, while my husband chose the lamb biryani, which came with a medium vegetable curry. Both the lamb and beef were very tender, and the granny sauce deliciously rich, with a bit of a kick courtesy of the green chillis and spices. For those who have room, ice cream is available for dessert. With its comfortable bar area for pre-dinner drinks, friendly and attentive staff and an award-winning yet reasonably priced menu, Hook Tandoori is simply perfect. No wonder the restaurant was voted among the top 100 curry houses at the British Curry Awards.
