Carter's in Kennington
British
Run by chef Tony Caine, Carter's in Kennington showcases the fantastic talent of his NVQ pupils by way of exceptional cuisine and first-rate service. While perusing the daily changing menu, we were each offered a delightful amuse-bouche - a tiny filled pastry topped with paté. To start we selected the excellent pea and mint tart and the hot and sour Thai-inspired soup with freshly baked bread. Next came a rack of lamb, cooked to perfection, and a salmon en croute with Hollandaise sauce. The delicious accompanying vegetables included courgettes with mushrooms, shredded cabbage and bacon, buttered carrots and Bombay-style potatoes. A glass of merlot from the short but comprehensive wine list washed it all down wonderfully. Such great food at unbelievable value means booking in advance is definitely a good idea, as is hiring the venue out for your own private party. *Price range represents the cost of a three-course lunch
