Déjà vu is the latest venue opened by Parviz Hoodfar, a chef with many years' experience, who has already made a great success of his existing restaurants. At Déjà vu the dishes are fabulous in their simplicity, and the taste of Persia runs throughout the menu. All are lovingly created by Parviz, who showcases his skill at using fresh local ingredients to create classic Persian and Mediterranean dishes.
My starter of meatballs in a spicy tomato, plum and tarragon sauce was a real joy and was accompanied by a plentiful basket of warm flatbreads, making it a hearty and satisfying dish. My partner's plate of falafel served with a crispy hash brown and onion rings was also very well received. For the main course we both ordered kebabs - for me a mixed kebab of chicken, melt-in-the-mouth lamb and peppers, and for my partner the marinated chicken breast. Both dishes were served off the skewer on a bed of basmati rice with barberries and saffron. A yoghurt and cucumber dip, and a finely chopped dish of tomatoes, onions, parsley and herbs formed the perfect accompaniment, along with a lovely crisp house white wine.
We were now totally satisfied but allowed ourselves to be tempted by the magnificent Persian ice cream, subtly flavoured with rose water and pistachio - a wonderful close to a thoroughly enjoyable evening. As we left, we were already planning our next visit, which is sure to be one of many
