Arlo

Arlo is a quirky foodie haven in Jesmond catering for your every eating-out need. This informal eatery, filled with Alpine memorabilia and retro knick-knacks, creates a warm and homely feel, and is the perfect place to while away the hours. While it’s a popular daytime local haunt, its evening bistro is not to be missed. The emphasis here is on locally sourced, seasonal and home-cooked food prepared by talented chefs. The daytime menu includes a great selection of light bites, salads, platters and heartier main dishes including some delicious burgers, which is what my partner and I plumped for. We sampled a generous fish platter before tucking into well-stacked burgers in brioche buns served with chunky chips. We left room to taste the homemade cakes, which were just divine. The evening menu beckons a return visit, as it boasts dishes like tempura sea bass, Thai red curry and sirloin steak. If gourmet cooking, great service with a laid-back vibe is what you’re after, then look no further than Arlo.
