A recent facelift has transformed Pacific House. Whilst still imposing in stature, its modern, sleek interior - featuring polished chrome and dark wood - has made it a smart addition to the Newcastle dining scene. Centrally located, it is the perfect place for shoppers, students and office workers to take a break. It is also adjacent to the City Hall, making it an ideal pre-gig pit-stop.
The new look also includes a new menu, promising a wide selection of pub classics as well as more adventurous and exotic dishes such as Thai green curry and gourmet burgers. On our visit we found the staff to be extremely friendly and we were served attentively throughout the evening. We were more than impressed with the menu, which was packed full of delicious choices, including those for vegetarians and diners with dietary concerns. For confirmed carnivores the grill is a definite winner, featuring chicken, gammon, salmon and rib-eye steak. The latter I enjoyed immensely with a delicious peppercorn sauce, fat chips, juicy onion rings, tomato and grilled Portobello mushroom, after I had already indulged in a king prawn skewer for starters.
For daytime diners, there are all-day breakfasts and a vast selection of lunch options ranging from jacket potatoes, sandwiches and wraps to tasty salad bowls. On top of such mouth-watering food, they have a discerning selection of world beers and cask ales, wines and cocktails. It's safe to say there's something for everyone at Pacific House.
