Located just minutes from the market town of Morpeth, this iconic Georgian building is the ideal tranquil destination for true foodies. Head chef Graeme Toms' seasonal menu uses the finest local produce to create classical dishes with an innovative twist, utilising produce from 18 different local suppliers. Fresh fish from North Shields, prime lamb from Dunterley Farm and matured cuts of Kielder Organics beef are just some of the delights to look forward to. Real, honest food is cooked with care and attention to detail to produce mouth-watering dishes of ham hock terrine with saffron-poached pear, vanilla syrup and watercress. Braised lamb shoulder with lamb cutlet, crushed heritage potatoes and olive jus is an excellent example of creativity married with the finest simple ingredients to exquisite effect. Moving on to a finale of warm rhubarb crumble, rhubarb fool and rhubarb tartlet and you'll experience a perfect trio of textures and decadence. But it is not just evening dining that makes Longhirst well worth a visit; for the perfect summer's day, treat yourself to afternoon tea in the fabulous Drawing Room overlooking the gardens or, for a special celebration, reserve the elegant Lawson Room. And from Monday to Saturday, a two-course simple lunch is served, with a traditional offering on Sundays. Any visit is perfectly completed with a stroll along Longhirst's woodland walk and, if you just can't bear to tear yourself away, take advantage of one of their exclusive breaks and stay overnight. Longhirst offers real honest food produced by passionate people.
