Nipa Thai
Chinese and East Asian

Lancaster London, Lancaster Terrace, Bayswater, W2 2TY

Poised above the vibrant cosmopolitan bustle of Lancaster Gate, overlooking the leafy northern perimeter of Hyde Park, Nipa Thai is one of London's premier Thai restaurants. This reputable establishment boasts an understated natural charm that instantly sets the scene for relaxed, unhurried dining in an uncluttered and sophisticated setting.
We began with ruam mitr - a selection of the chef's special Thai starters - with crisp crab spring rolls, traditional Thai fishcakes, prawn dumplings and peanutsauce- marinated chicken. The range and subtlety of their delicate flavours had our tastebuds tingling straight away. Next, the tom yum kai, spicy chicken soup with mushrooms, lemongrass, chillies and lime broth, was exceptional, and once again the depth of flavour was incredible. The superb piquancy of the lime broth demonstrated a confident and exacting kitchen which prides itself on perfection. Kaeng massaman kae followed, made from coconut milk, onions, peanuts, new potatoes and lamb, which was rich, complex and deeply satisfying. The som tam (green papaya salad with peanuts and sweet and sour chilli) and the pla phad char friend (fried sea bass with Thai aubergine and lemongrass) were every bit as delicious. To finish, our ice cream kluay tod, a crunchy fried banana with honey and ice cream, was wonderfully sweet and sticky.
Here, freshly prepared ingredients are cooked to the highest standards by a dedicated team of chefs, and an excellent wine list, which includes Thai wines, complements a menu that is as comprehensive as it is original
