This friendly pub and restaurant is a firm favourite with locals and tourists alike. Proprietor Gary knows most of the former by name; we already felt like old friends after he talked us through the daily specials. We ordered the full and flavoursome rib-eye steak served with hand-cut chips to die for and tasty salsa verde, and the home-cooked steak and mushroom pie with light-as-air pastry, creamed mashed potato and seasonal veg. As ale lovers, the bottles of Badger Golden Glory, recommended by the ever-helpful Gary to complement our meal, went down a treat - the delicious peachy flavours matched perfectly. With little room for dessert - portions here are fantastically filling - we opted for two spoons and a pot of butterscotch ice cream to finish.
