The mantra of Main Street Restaurant is to create modern British food with a twist and it certainly manages to stick to this guiding principle in all of its dishes. Even though the restaurant has a dazzling array of menus to choose from, covering everything from early bird suppers and children's menus to afternoon tea and à la carte, thankfully it never loses sight of its main objective. Delicious distinctive dishes and lots of happy customers are the result.

Starters from the à la carte menu include a classic roast pear salad, an intriguing duck soup and some juicy king scallops. Expect to find such gems as pork tender loin wrapped in Black Forest ham with red pepper marmalade and potato croquettes, lemon poached Scottish salmon supreme with olive oil mash and chargrilled fennel, and wild mushroom and asparagus ravioli with creamed leeks propping up the main courses.

And what would any of us do without some comforting desserts to feast on? The chocolate fondant is particularly recommended here. If chocolate isn't your thing then try the passion fruit Bavarois with blood orange jelly or the British cheese platter with biscuits, homemade chutney, celery and grapes - the perfect way to wrap up a splendid meal.
