Baltic Restaurant

Housed in a beautiful 18th-Century coachbuilder's close to The Old Vic, the Southbank centre and the Tate Modern, Baltic has become the destination restaurant of choice south of the river. It specialises in pan-Eastern-European cuisine, offering dishes from northern Poland, Russia, southern Georgia and the Caucasus.

With its large cocktail bar, two private dining rooms and spacious main restaurant, Baltic is an ideal place to have any kind of party. The Amber Bar is ideally situated near the cocktail bar and overlooks the lively main restaurant, while the second dining room is completely separate, offering the opportunity for totally private dining. Baltic's à la carte menu changes monthly and according to seasonal variations. There are also pre-theatre and Sunday menus, plus a great selection of hearty daily specials. Expect the likes of golonka - roast pork shank with sauerkraut, caraway and potato - or hot smoked salmon with potato and caper salad. The food - though beautifully presented and of the highest quality - is refreshingly unpretentious and remains faithful to traditional Eastern European cuisine.

Baltic boasts a well-stocked, good-value wine cellar, with a bottle of the house wine costing just £15. Flavoured vodkas are also made on site, and the cocktails are to die for. Celebrity-seekers and theatre fans will find Baltic is a great location for star-spotting, thanks to its proximity to The Old Vic.
