Med Kitchen brings the finest ingredients and freshly made, brasserie-style food to the masses with its five London branches. With the capital's cultural, entertainment and shopping hotspots on their various doorsteps - including Soho, Kensington and Islington - these restaurants offer peaceful respite from hectic city life. Med Kitchen's latest restaurant can be found on the river at Richmond with a view from the terrace that's hard to beat.
The emphasis is on relaxed dining - friendly waiters and waitresses ensure a warm welcome, while meze and antipasti platters encourage sharing. Sun-kissed Mediterranean flavours pepper the menu, from spicy Moroccan lamb sausages with tzatziki to chargrilled calamari with chilli, rocket and lemon - and that's just for starters. Light meals include Spanish omelette with chorizo, peppers, potato and red onion, served with deliciously crunchy homemade French fries. The 'complete meals' section on the menu offers a mouth-watering selection of dishes, backed up by quality ingredients. The award-winning rib-eye steak comes from naturally reared cattle and has been aged for 31 days, while the chicken, marinated in rosemary and lemon, is corn-fed and sourced from Normandy. And how can you turn down one of the homemade puddings? Raspberry creme brulée, vanilla cheesecake and Greek yoghurt with pistachio and a red berry compote are fruity, creamy highlights.
The à la carte selection represents excellent value for money - but for an even bigger bargain, keep an eye out for Med Kitchen's pre-theatre, special lunch and party menus (for larger groups of diners). The choice might be a little smaller, but the same fresh flavours are still there.
