Fish Central

Fish Central is a homage to that most English of institutions, fish and chips; but this isn't your regular chippy. The restaurant has been serving top-quality fresh fish and seafood for more than four decades, with all produce sourced from Borough Market. The menu helpfully describes the differences between the fish on offer - from hake to halibut, rock salmon to skate. Inside it's buzzing, with regulars being greeted by name. Fish Central has not only earned itself a pack of loyal customers, it's also attracted the praise of seafood superstar Rick Stein. When our food arrived, I could see why. The lobster prawn cocktail was sweet, meaty and packed with generous lobster chunks, and the scallops were cooked to perfection. Our main courses followed suit. My grilled plaice was succulent and full of flavour, but I was particularly impressed by the Dover sole - excellent value and stunningly tasty. This is fish and chips at its very best.
