Hop off the tube at Charing Cross, set off towards Covent Garden and you’ll arrive at Hazuki. This Japanese restaurant welcomes all, be it tourists, professionals, theatre-goes or shoppers – all gather here to sample the exquisite cuisine.
The menu is delightfully extensive and on our visit our friendly waiter expertly guided us through the options to select food and drinks that certainly hit the spot. On his recommendation, we decided to be adventurous and were rewarded greatly. Our appetisers included delectable pork gyoza and soft vegetable dumplings, while our starters comprised an unforgettable nasudengaku – melt-in-the-mouth aubergine with miso sauce – and agedashi tofu paired with soy dipping sauce. These we partnered with a Japanese craft beer named Musashino. We then moved on to sashimi and nigiri sushi, with the fresh and delicate sea bass and eel sushi being particular highlights. The dobin mushi was also excellent, filled with chicken and fish and unlike any I’ve ever had before. A side of vegetable tempura also deserves mentioning, and its accompanying tangy tempura sauce is definitely my new favourite condiment.
Hazuki is conveniently open for both lunch and dinner, and offers set menus for the indecisive. For fabulous Japanese food at reasonable prices in the heart of London, it is the obvious choice.
