Modern, light and airy with subtle Indian touches, Spice 45's interior is refreshing and vibrant. It is no surprise that many of its steady flow of customers are regulars who cannot resist coming back for more.
We started with poppadoms and pickles, complemented by a deliciously tangy tandoori onion relish. There were many new and unusual dishes on the menu and we found the staff helpful, friendly and happy to advise on our choices. To start I opted for the homemade chilli honey paneer, which was marinated in a flavoursome sauce that was the perfect balance between sweet and spicy.
The starters set the scene for the stars of the show - our main courses. Along with the aubergine bhaji, I opted for the chicken kudoo - a traditional Moghul dish.
Tender pieces of chicken arrived in a medium spicy sauce, featuring butternut squash, tomatoes, coriander, herbs and spices. Every mouthful was a pleasure. My companion selected the lamb naga, which she could not praise highly enough. The slowcooked lamb was tender and succulent, enveloped in a coriander and chilli sauce.
Although we were too full to manage a dessert each, we could not resist sharing one. We chose the cream kulfi, which was rich and velvety, and we instantly regretted not ordering one each.
