The Lower Street Brasserie
Modern British

Situated in the charming village of Stansted Mountfitchet, The Lower Street Brasserie is favoured by well-seasoned diners looking for a bit more than premium pub food. Chef Kaz Stafi n has over 34 years of experience and knowledge, and his talent is showcased in every dish served. He carefully selects the finest locally sourced produce, and brings fresh ideas to the restaurant table.
The exquisite menu is served in a low-key, informal dining space, complete with white tablecloths and crisp, clean decor that allows the food to take centre stage. Nibbling on homemade focaccia, we chose from an extensive selection of freshly made dishes. We began with pierogi, traditional Polish savoury dumplings in wild mushroom sauce, and handcrafted foie gras served with cherry jelly, almond tuile and toasted brioche. Each dish was presented with aplomb, the smoked salmon and white crab salad complete with flower of dill, chives and cucumber petals. For mains, the slow-cooked pork belly and the selection of fresh fish dishes were tempting, but we were won over by the fillet steak and Gressingham duck. To finish, we relished strawberry and vanilla panna cotta, and a rich crème brûlée.
This family-run restaurant has an unassuming exterior and, within, a passionate team with a genuine love of food that you can taste in every mouthful.
