With its comfortable and relaxed interior, piled firewood and exposed beams, The Cricketers Arms has a quintessentially English feel. Although the mood is laid-back, new chef James Goodchild has put his own refined stamp on traditional British fare. With seasonality and locally sourced ingredients at the forefront, the menu boasts a range of flavoursome dishes. Our meal began with a light beetroot and feta cheese salad and luxurious caramelised onion bread. Next, I opted for a lean 7oz wild boar burger, with mild Somerset Brie and sweet tomato relish, while my fellow diner enjoyed his Norfolk crab, chilli, lime and ginger linguine. A decadent dark chocolate mint pot topped with Chantilly cream and a mixed berry Eton Mess followed. We can't wait to come back and try one of their Sunday roasts, which we're told are the best around, or perhaps to stay in the comfortable accommodation upstairs
